The items and links in this section show that I have a strong background in using technology to create well-designed products. These artifacts prove my ability to apply what I know to unfamiliar situations, such as utilizing a computer application in an alternative way, to have a positive and effective outcome.

How to Find Statistics Brochure
(wrobel_portfolio_pres_tool.ppt)
This brochure was designed using Microsoft PowerPoint as an assignment in a graduate class about government documents. It is an example of my ability to successfully adapt a presentation tool, PowerPoint, for use in publishing a tri-fold brochure. I am a Macintosh user without access to Microsoft Publisher. This brochure shows that I can be creative and offer users of two platforms, Macintosh and PCs, the ability to download and use this publication which is aimed at high school seniors in a Participation in Government class. In addition to learning how to adapt to a potentially limiting situation, I learned how to break down a complex topic and present it to high school students in a visually appealing and intellectually appropriate way.

Resources for Allies and Friends of GLBTQ Youth
(wrobel_portfolio_pub_tool.doc)
This publication was created for a high school counselor while I completed my secondary library media center practicum. My cooperating media specialist alerted me that one of the school's counselors needed some multicultural resources for working with gay and questioning students, so I took the task one step further and designed this bibliography in Microsoft Word. I learned how to successfully anticipate a co-worker's information needs while maintaining a simple, easy-to-access design. This artifact shows that I understand when to use "bells and whistles" in a presentation and when, perhaps, it is more important to share content through clean design rather than emphasizing flashy add-ons.

"Chicks Read" T-shirt
(wrobel_portfolio_tech_skills.jpg)
Chicks Read T-shirt I successfully organized the creation of this library t-shirt for Spirit Week during my secondary practicum. My cooperating media specialist suggested the slogan, "Chicks Read," and what she wanted the shirt to look like. From there, I commissioned an art teacher acquaintance working in another school district to sketch the graphic. I then scanned and manipulated the image using Adobe Photoshop before printing it in reverse on special ink-jet paper so that I could iron-on the design for the four female members of the library staff. This project taught me that quick-thinking coordination of local resources, combined with quirky innovation, can unite staff members. The production of this shirt, which another educator in the building later requested, proves how I successfully put my technology skills to work.
